Product range. Skin care products, cosmetics, and a limited range of fragrances. The company has always put emphasis on skin care. Salicylic acid is one of Clinique's trademark ingredients.

What/how to buy. Clinique are credited with developing the 3 step skin care system. That's why the company shines when it comes to cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing products. Clinique products are allergy tested, which means that they are formulated without known allergens. 600 volunteers participate in an allergy test with the product applied 12 times on each of them. All in all, this makes for 7,200 tests. If at least one of those 7,200 applications incites an allergic reaction, the company does not bring the product to market and starts over.

Clinique products are not for vegans and other advocates of cruelty free beauty products. Clinique have long been on the PETA.org list of companies that do not test on animals; however, in 2012 it was proved that Clinique products just like all products by other Estée Lauder brands are not tested on animals except when required by law, which is the case, for example, in mainland China.

Unique products. High Impact Mascara and Lash Power Mascara, Dramatically Different Moisturizing gel, Almost Powder Makeup SPF 15, and Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief oil-free gel.

Pricing. Skin care products cost £30 on average; makeup products are £15 and above.

Corporate history highlights. The brand was founded in 1968 as an offshoot of the Estée Lauder Company. A US Vogue Magazine editor Carol Phillips and a top-ranked New York dermatologist Dr. Norman Orentreich were recruited by Estée Lauder to develop a novel skin care concept. They have eventually come up with the 3 step skin care system that took the market by storm. The brand is credited with being the first to claim the benefits of exfoliating for all skin types.
