COS
Product range. Minimalism, clean-cut designs, subdued colours, lack of embellishments, and a novel reading of otherwise common details. Add to this quality materials and a humbling number of staple styles reissued with every new season.
Originality. COS is the only label that succeeded in teetering between mass market and upscale brands (think of the likes of Céline or Stella McCartney). COS is also touted for achieving this in an elegant way free of nightmarish chest logos, while never being derivative.
Chic. Thoroughly understated clothing style and good taste make COS perfectly relevant today after the demise of burlesque fashion and unquiet luxury.
Pricing. COS is way more expensive than H&M, which is but natural given its product range that is easy to mistake for Acne's diffusion line (should such a thing be available) than of mass market labels as we know them. This is also the case when premium price stands for premium quality. The brand offers the pieces made of silk, cashmere, and merino wool.
Corporate history highlights. COS was launched in 2007 in the UK, as a sister brand of H&M. Unlike the latter, however, COS is not as affordable, both in terms of its pricing and the number of brick and mortar stores. That said, COS retails online with shipment overseas available for about 20 countries.
