Product range. Unassuming styles of women's and men's footwear for everyday use: high boots, ankle boots, boots, shoes, sandals, moccasins, and clogs. Rieker position themselves as a brand of comfy footwear and its product range never (ever) features special occasion footwear or classic men's shoes. The footwear is anything but eye-catching with black, grey, brown and beige dominating the palette.

Chic. Rieker makes footwear that preserves natural foot health. It is lightweight and has comfortable lasts and flexible soles. If compared to Ecco, that favour minimalist or sports look, the footwear by Rieker strikes as somewhat old-fashioned and unrefined.

Originality. Footwear by Rieker is good value for money with decent quality and functionality serving as key success factors for decades. However, recent year saw a decline in the quality of Rieker's products. Some styles use faux leather, faux fur, and velours. When making a purchase, you're well-advised to closely inspect an attached label to study the composition: it's good to know in advance that faux leather footwear is unlikely to have more than one season's wear.

Pricing. High boots are about £60, boots are £50, sandals and shoes are £40.

Corporate history highlights. Rieker was founded as 'Rieker & Seitz' by two friends Heinrich Rieker und Carl Seitz in the late 19th century in the Black Forest region of Germany that borders with Italy. Initially, the shoe company catered to the needs of affluent Northern Italians. From the very beginning, Rieker fostered impeccable quality which proved instrumental in expanding the customer base and ensured the business growth. Nowadays, Rieker boasts a retail chain of about 9,000 stores mainly in Europe, but also in the USA, the UK, Canada, and elsewhere.
